چکیده

Although drug-induced liver injury is common, physician awareness of specific drug reactions is often limited. Celecoxibinduced drug injury has not been widely reported. We describe the case of a 28 year-old woman who presented to the emergency department with cholestatic liver injury following 13 days of celecoxib use. We searched the literature and reviewed existing case reports of celecoxib-induced liver injury to highlight similarities and offer a discussion of the associated pathology.

Prolonged cholestasis associated with short-term use of celecoxib.

Drug-induced liver injury due to celecoxib, a first generation Cox-2 inhibitor, has been rarely reported. We describe one case of severe and prolonged cholestasis after treatment with celecoxib for 12 days in a young woman with no evidence of other causes of liver disease or allergy. Jaundice lasted for 3 months, pruritus and abnormal liver biochemistry persisted for 18 months after stopping th...

Cholestatic Hepatitis with Small Duct Injury Associated with Celecoxib

Drug-induced liver injury (DILI) is a common clinical entity but is underreported due to various reasons. Cyclooxygenase-2 inhibitors like Celecoxib have been proven to be associated with lesser incidence of adverse drug reactions compared to other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID). However, Celecoxib has been rarely reported to be associated with cholestasis and hepatitis. We presen...

Bile acid-mediated induction of cyclooxygenase-2 and Mcl-1 in hepatic stellate cells.

In cholestatic liver diseases, bile acids induce hepatocyte apoptosis and thus cause liver injury, but hepatic stellate cells (HSCs) survive in the presence of bile acids. We attempted to analyze anti-apoptotic signaling pathways in HSCs against bile acid-induced apoptosis. In immortalized human HSCs and primarily cultured rat HSCs, bile acid treatment increased the expression levels of cycloox...

Hepatotoxicity induced by celecoxib and amlodipine.

A 58-year old woman received celecoxib (Celebrex®) for 2 years to treat fibromyalgia. Pathological liver enzyme levels were discovered incidentally. Abdominal sonography showed no cholelithiasis, the bile ducts were normal, and there were no signs of chronic liver disease. At admission the patient was icteric and physical examination revealed no signs of chronic liver disease. Her history confi...
